Theme of the seminar

"Learning for intercultural awareness and inclusion in suburban areas" was the theme of this international Grundtvig Partner Finding Seminar held in Quality Hotel in Høje-Taastrup.

The areas in the outskirts of the bigger cities in all of Europe seem to face similar challenges: deprived housing, high unemployment, low level of education etc. This seminar focussed on learning activities for adults in suburban areas, including young adults (16+) for whom schooling has not been successful.

The seminar was hosted by CIRIUS, the Danish Grundtvig National Agency, in close co-operation with adult educators in the Municipality of Høje-Taastrup.

A special thank you

CIRIUS gives a special  thank you to the mayor of the Municipality of Høje-Taastrup who opened the seminar, to the social housing and learning coordinator in Tåstrupgård, Stig Bo Kristensen, who introduced us to the local area and coordinated the local seminar activities, and to all the students, their teachers and the leader of Høje-Taastrup language centre, 'Hytten', who opened their doors for a very important dialogue with the seminar participants and a delicious home made meal for everyone, 60 people!

Who had been invited to participate in the seminar?

Adult educators from institutions and associations in suburban areas who wished to work in Grundtvig Learning Parterships from August 2007 to July 2009. 60 people from 19 countries participated in the seminar.

Results of the seminar

The seminar aimed at establishing contacts among adult educators who believe in the added value of participating in a Grundtvig Learning Partnership as a means to inspire and develop own practice. The working group sessions offered the opportunity to discuss this in multinational groups and permitted ideas to emerge and partnerships to be established. 8 concrete project proposals were developed.
