Social and Healthcare Assistants
You need an authorisation to be able to use the title Social and Healthcare Assistant in Denmark.
Authorisation has been introduced concerning the title of social and healthcare assistant. This means that:
- Only persons holding Danish authorisation can call themselves social and healthcare assistant: "social- og sundhedsassistent"
- If you have a Danish or similar foreign qualification as a social and healthcare assistant, you can apply for a Danish authorisation.
- The National Board of Health makes the decision about authorisation.
The occupation of "social- og sundhedshjælper" is not affected by the new regulations.
If you have already received an assessment from the Danish Agency for International Education
The requirement mentioned above applies even if you have received an assessment from the Danish Agency for International Education (previously CIRIUS) saying that your qualification is comparable in level to a Danish social and healthcare assistant qualification.
How to apply for authorisation
First visit the website of the National Board of Health (www.sst.dk). There you will find the application form and instructions for preparing your application:
-
In English: Social and Healthcare Assistants.
-
In Danish: Social- og sundhedsassistent med udenlandsk uddannelse.
Please note that you must submit your application to the National Board of Health both electronically and by post.
There is a fee for registration to be paid when the National Board of Health has evaluated your application.
Regulations
The Danish parliament introduced the authorisation scheme by passing a bill, in June 2008, amending the act governing authorisation of health personnel (in Danish).
