Language Requirements

In order to be considered for admission to a study programme of higher education in Denmark, you must meet certain requirements for your Danish and English proficiency, in addition to meeting the general study requirements.

Danish

Students holding a foreign entry qualification must be proficient in Danish both orally and in writing. Most programmes of higher education require that you have passed Studieprøven i dansk som andetsprog (the “Study Test in Danish as a Second Language”).

If you are a Danish citizen, you may not be required to take a Danish test if you can document that Danish is your mother tongue or that you have learnt Danish at school. It depends on the rules laid down by the institution you are applying to.

If you are a student from another Nordic country, you are normally not required to take a Danish test if you studied Danish, Norwegian or Swedish as part of your entry qualification. It depends on the rules laid down by the institution.

To see the specific language requirements please visit the institution's website or the UddannelsesGuiden website (in Danish).

Visit the Work in Denmark website for information about Danish language courses.

English

Some educational institutions require that you take a supplementary test in English if you do not have previous English proficiency at a level that is regarded as necessary in order to be able to complete the study programme in question.

Further information

The above requirements must have been before the start of the study programme depending on the rules of the educational institution.

Some study programmes are offered in English and do not have any Danish proficiency requirements. A requirement may be made for English proficiency at a specific level.
