The Danish education system for foreign citizens

See the opportunities the system offers to foreign citizens

Primary and lower secondary education for foreigners

Some private schools offer education in foreign languages – mostly in English, but a few also in French and German. Some private schools offer education in the Arabic languages.

Non-Danish speaking children may also attend primary and lower secondary education in the Danish folkeskole. Some municipalities may offer an introductory programme which includes Danish language instruction as well as subject-related mother tongue lessons.

Upper secondary education for foreigners

A few schools offer general upper secondary programmes in English, German or French.

The English programmes are the international baccalaureate (the IB) and the related pre-IB. The German programmes equal the Abitur, and the French programmes the French baccalauréat. Regardless of language, the diplomas are internationally recognised.

Some of the schools are private, and some are boarding schools.

Higher Education

Danish higher education institutions offer a range of opportunities for international students. The institutions are international and offer more that 500 programmes and 1,000 courses taught in English.
