I would like to teach in Denmark – what possibilities do I have?
As a foreign citizen you must first of all comply with the Danish rules for residence and work permit, which depend on your nationality.
If you comply with these rules, you are free to apply for vacant positions in the private schools as well as for temporary posts in public primary and lower secondary education (Folkeskolen) and in upper secondary education. However, the procedures vary depending on the type of school and the educational level.
If you want to apply for a permanent teaching position in the folkeskole or the upper secondary schools (STX, HF, HTX or HHX), you need to get an official recognition of your foreign teaching qualification through the Danish Agency for International Education:
You may also apply for vacant positions at vocational schools, higher education institutions and adult learning centres, where official recognition of diplomas is not necessary.
Where do I find the job vacancies?
You can find adverts for vacancies in the daily newspapers, professional journals (e.g. Folkeskolen, Gymnasieskolen and Magisterbladet), university magazines or some of the job databases, e.g. www.profiljob.dk (upper secondary school), www.jobbank.dk or www.eures.dk. Please note that neither the Danish Agency for International Education nor the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Higher Education hold any information about vacancies.
It is also possible to apply for positions at the international schools in Denmark.
Is it possible to become a guest teacher/visiting professor in Denmark ?
The possibilities and conditions to become a guest teacher at a Danish school or a visiting professor at a higher education institution vary.
For vacancies within primary and secondary education as well as within the adult education centres, you should contact the institutions of your interest directly.
For vacancies within higher education, you should also contact the institutions of your interest directly.
