EuroStudent IV - Denmark

The Danish Agency for Universities and Internationalisation is working on a large study on the Danish students' social and economic conditions – Eurostudent.

Part of a joint European project

The study, as the name suggests, is part of a joint European project. Through independent national surveys based on a common European template the project makes it possible to compare the students' social and economic conditions across countries in Europe.

New knowledge

  • How are the Danish students finances compared with students in other countries? And how do the students see it themselves? Are they spoiled or living on a shoe-string?
  • How many hours of teaching do Danish students receive per week compared to students in other countries and how much time is spent on preparation and self-study?
  • How much does parental income of the youth affect the youth’s educational choices and opportunities in different countries?
  • Do students from low income families spend more time on student jobs than those born with a silver spoon in their mouth?
  • Do Danish students complete longer education than their parents compared to students in other countries?
Are students disabilities taken into consideration?
  • Do Danish youngsters spend more time in transition between secondary and tertiary education than others? And what is keeping the youngsters in transition?

These and countless other questions that we do not know the answers to today, will we learn much more about through Eurostudent.

Eurostudent is expected to provide both students, educational institutions and politicians with a better platform for discussion and improvement of the students' conditions, education and training institutions. Whether it concerns the study load, amount of education, amount of lab work, financial problems for students, social and educational background or other factors.

Publication of results

The results of the study was published throughout Europe in an international conference that took place at the IT University and Tietgenkollegiet in Copenhagen on June 15-16th 2011.
The
European report and selected Danish results can be downloaded here.

The report formed the basis for a major international debate event on the Danish student matters in the light of the Eurostudent survey. Here topics such as; Transition, international mobility, educational quality and student's economic situation was debated intensely.

The deeper analysis of the Danish part of the study are published regularly on this website.
